Croatian Association of People with Intellectual Disabilities was established 1957. in Zagreb as a company to help people with intellectual disabilities. Since its inception, is a member of the International League national associations of people with mental disabilities (ILSMH), what is today a global organization for issues of intellectual disability Inclusion International. From 2006. The member of the European branch of Inclusion International, Inclusion Europe, although due to lack of resources and activities temporarily idle.

Croatian Association of People with Intellectual Disabilities gathers 31 basic organization and 40 clubs for people with intellectual disabilities from more than 10.000 Members, on whose behalf acts.

 

The reason of association of basic organizations in the Alliance is its 6 basic programs implemented at the national level. Oni its;

1. coordinative activity (Declaration on Association)
2. Education
3. Clubs
4. Publishing
5. international activity
6. The advisory activity

Educational activities are intended for parents, leaders of clubs and people with intellectual disabilities, with the aim of improving the quality of life of people with IT living in families. Various educational activities are also carried out with the purpose of familiarizing the public with the issue of intellectual disability, thus trying to influence the development of public awareness and contribute to the development of civil society in terms of acceptance of diversity and tolerance.

Clubs of people with intellectual disabilities are an expression of parental efforts to children living in families and are not covered by any aspect of national concern, provide an organized and purposeful leisure time. We hope that the clubs will be recognized for its value and enter the social welfare system which would enable their steady and smooth operation.

As part of the Alliance are two counseling, Legal counseling and counseling for psychological help. (read more)

Alliance from its origins deals with publishing the work of publishing the professional journal 'Our friend’ which is the only one in Croatia dealing with issues of intellectual disability; issued and newspapers for parents of people with intellectual disabilities, various manuals and commemorative issues.
